I was on watch from 9 till 10. I went into the cabin at 10.15 to see what time it was and to call the other man to relieve me.
Instead of calling the other man, I went on the top-gallant fore-yard and fell asleep. I heard Castle and a noise of marines and found a lot on deck and a blue jacket had fallen from the main top.
I heard a noise in the cabin, I went aft, and heard the lieutenant singing "Rule Britannia" or "For God and our King". I saw the mate standing at the cabin table. I asked him what was the matter, he said he did not know.
I went into the Captain's state room. The Captain was sitting on the edge of the bed bleeding from the head. I helped him on to his chair and got a bucket of water and poured it on his head. The doctor was then on board.
